Peter & the Starcatchers

16. Read 50 books (6/50)

My 9 year old nephew Alex lent me the book, Peter & The Starcatchers. It is the first in a 5 part series by Dave Barry, and provides a back story to Peter Pan. Have you ever wondered how Peter became Peter Pan? How did the Lost Boys get on that island? Where did old Captain Hook come from? Read this book! It was a great read - I'm already halfway through the sequel.

Side note - this is the 6th book I've read in a year. That is kinda sucky. At this rate, it would take me more than 8 years to read 50 books. I used to read books more than I drank water. :) I miss reading, I honestly hate being glued to a TV or a computer. I want Caleb to develop a love of reading. I really, really want to focus on this goal!

The problem with this series is that Peter Pan already has a backstory as per his creator, J.M. Barrie. The Barry/Pearson novels have a ton of mistakes in them, so many that one has to wonder if they even read Barrie. It's not just fact-checking. They change personalities as well as the very reason Pan doesn't grow up! How can they be so disrespectful to classic literature let alone another author? List of Differences
There is a faithful continuation of Pan's adventures, based on Barrie’s own idea for more: Click!
